Adults at St Alkmund's

Growing in the Christian Faith:

Christianity Experienced

We believe that the Bible, as God’s Word is central to helping us live the Christian life and so that undergirds all that we do.

Following on from Christianity Explored we run 2 year long course, with four parts called ‘Christianity Experienced’.

Autumn:‘Looking at Ephesians’

Using Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, we look at some important aspects of living the Christian life.

Spring: ‘Discipleship course’

A course that looks at the basics of the Christian life – reading the Bible, prayer, church, and practical helps for growing as a Christian.

Summer: The Church

This course looks at what the Bible tells us about the church. The Bible’s view of the church is that it is revolutionary, exciting and absolutely central to God’s work of salvation in the world. As a Christian, we need to understand the purpose and nature of the church, what it means to be a part of it and how we can be involved.
In this course, we also look at the particular vision and purpose of this local church, here at St Alkmund’s – including our 3 core values (God-glorifying, Bible-Believing and Gospel-driven) and what it means to be a member here.

In the second year we run a year long course (meeting every fortnight)

Bible Overview:

A course that looks at how the whole Bible fits together, in particular looking at how the Old Testament points to the coming of Jesus. This serves as an excellent introduction to the Bible as it shows how understanding how Jesus is and what he came to do unlocks the whole of the Bible.
(This year 2008-2009, as a one-off we are running the Bible Overview course for the whole church and have stopped our growth-groups)

Growth Groups:

We have a number of small groups that meet together fortnightly to study the Bible together, pray and encourage one another in living the Christian life. These groups are open to all and are intended to help us grow in our faith and to encourage us to reach out to others with the good news of Christ. In a large church family it takes time to get to know one another but a small group can be a great means to getting to know people better and providing a means of really caring for one another.

Prayer Meetings:

(This year we are operating a different pattern than usual because of the Bible Overview course)
This is in many ways the most important meeting of all in the life of the church, we meet together to pray for the needs of the church and its life, ministry and mission. We also pray for the needs of our community, wider area and nation, and mission work worldwide.
